A moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch is now officially in effect beginning late Sunday and into Monday (UTC).
The coronal mass ejection (CME) generated by the filament eruption on Friday is expected to pass Earth late this weekend and could generate minor (G1) to moderate (G2) storm conditions. Visible aurora will be likely at higher latitudes, however sky watchers across the northern tier of the United States should all be alert should the moderate threshold be reached.
