This is a comparison of today's polar vortex with the image of the polar vortex at the same time last year. I know people only talk about the polar vortex during the winter but it actually exists all year. It just weakens during the winter and causes chaos which gives meteorologists something to talk about. It's a pretty boring feature otherwise.

Anyways, notice that in 2021 the structure of the polar vortex is normal. The polar easterly winds are flowing smoothly around our axis, the vortex line. Now look at the polar vortex in 2022. Not looking so much like a vortex anymore. The deformation of the polar vortex is being caused the compression of our atmosphere. That compression is due to the same influence that's compressing our magnetosphere.

If you're feeling pressure on your joints or in your ears that you haven't felt before, you're not crazy. If you feel like something is squeezing or pushing down on you it's not all in your head. Something is literally squeezing you and the rest of the planet.

Our atmosphere has physically dropped as a result of this pressure. That's why clouds seem to drag the ground these days. They are considerably lower because the troposphere (where almost all weather occurs) is considerably lower than it should be. This compression is also the driver of our erratic weather but that's a post for another day.
