Dear self,
The truth about love
Is that those around you
Will claim to have all the answers
Possess all the wisdom
And know all the secrets
About how love works
But just because something wasn't a good fit for them
That doesn’t mean it won’t be a good fit for you
Just because something didn’t last for them
That doesn’t mean it won’t last for you
That doesn't mean that you are destined to too
Just because some people were unable to make things work
That doesn’t mean that you will be unable to too
Just because some people express love in a certain way
That doesn’t mean that you will too
And just because some people choose to define love in a certain way
That does not mean that that definition holds true for you
As there are as many kinds of love
As there are drops of water in the ocean
There are as many ways of loving
As there are stars in the universe
There are as many shades and flavours of love
As there are grains of sand on a beach
And there are as many routes to love
As there are people who have lived throughout history
And so another person’s path to love
Should not dictate, define
Or limit your own.
